On Sunday 19th June the latest round of the LRSAC Boat league took place at Lyme Regis. Competition was for Best Cod. 19 members took to two boats in conditions that could be best described as testing! As the weather conditions worsened with the onset of frequent rain showers it became evident that this match would be settled by those anglers who showed the most persistence. There were some nice Pollack taken on the Tennants early on but sadly no Cod. Skippers Lewis Hodder and Steve Sweet constantly moved in their efforts to find the elusive fish!
Andy Wray was the first to catch in the mid morning session on Alice Rose and this was followed up by Colin Thomas , also on Alice Rose, who brought his fish on board at about 15.00hrs. The winner however was Barry Moore who brought his cod on board Amaretto IV on the last drift of the day at 16.30hrs. Just proves that persistence pays off! There were only 3 Cod caught all day.
During the day various anglers took the opportunity to add to their species league results with Pollack, Pouting, Tub Gurnard, Ballan Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Poor Cod, Mackerel,
Tony Bessford caught a season’s best Ballan Wrasse of 1,148gms. but the most interesting catch was Andy Sheader catching a Plaice on a Cod lure off the Tennants.
Next Boat match is on Sunday 10th July – Number of Species (Pairs) – from 09.00 to 17.00.
