Boat – Species Competition 24th February 2019

19 Anglers signed in to fish from two charter boats Pegasus and Blue Turtle on a glorious winters morning. Both boats left at 8am to fish, at first, for Rays, Smoothounds, Bull Huss, Conger and the obligatory Dogfish and Pouting. All these species plus a bonus Pollack on Blue Turtle where caught in the first 2 hours, except the illusive Rays which were the supposed target species. The next mark was the west tenants reef with both boats opting to drift for Pollack, Wrasse and Pouting, although the fishing was relatively slow all these species where caught on both boats plus poor cod as well. At about 12;30 both boats moved off to a whiting mark about a mile south of the reef, the fishing started of slowly with a lack of tide but eventually it got going and lots of Whiting, Dogfish and Pouting where caught along with the odd Smoothound and a solitary Spotted Ray. Well done to Mike Hansell fishing on Pegasus scoring 48 points with 7 species and winning the comp giving him a score of 100% in the 2019 boat league, Mike Patten had the best score on Blue Turtle with 45 point putting him second in the league after the first round on 93.75% and Andy Sheader fishing on Pegasus was 3rd on the day scoring 43 points and 89.58% a great turn out for the first boat comp of the year and great to see some new faces. The next boat comp is for the Best Pollack and there are still spaces left on Blue Turtle, hopefully there will also be some privately owned boats fishing this competition.

All the results have been added in the boat league section.
