Weekly Fishing report – 8th January

A very good weekend’s fishing for the three LRSAC Charter Boats and those club members fishing.

On Saturday Brian Simms fishing on Pegasus, (Phil Hodder skippering,) caught a nice Bull Huss of 10lbs 2ozs (101.48% specimen size). The fish of the day was a new club record Undulate Ray of 16lbs 4ozs caught by Andy Sheader (on Pegasus) which beat Gavin Tyte’s old club record from 2014. This gave Andy a specimen size of 116.09%. Just to compete his good day Andy also caught a Cod of 14lbs 5ozs.

Steve Sweet (skippering Amaretto IV) also decided to get in on the act bringing in a Bull Huss of 12lbs 9lbs, a season best specimen of 125.66%. Steve also caught a Mackerel of 1lbs 15ozs, a L.S.Dogfish of 2lbs 5ozs and a Whiting of 2lbs 3ozs.

Sunday saw Steve out with Amaretto IV again and this time they caught Bass which although small were certainly plentiful, the best one weighing in at 2lbs 10ozs (calculated by length measurement), plenty of Pollock and Dogfish were also caught.

Lewis Hodder took to the water with his normal “second sunday in the month” group on Alice Rose, Howard Finch weighed in with a nice Pouting of 2lbs 10ozs and new member Richard Bagg caught a Pollack of 12lbs 2ozs. Again plenty of fish, mainly Pollack were also caught.

A good opening weekend to the season with ten fish being recorded on the Best Catch sheets and three specimen fish being forwarded on to the Angling Trust for Specimen awards.

All these fish have been updated on the club website under Best Catches, Best Specimen and Skipper Shield results.
