FIVE GO FISHING IN DORSET – 2015 FISHING COMPETITION
This is an annual boat fishing event which took place in Lyme Bay the weekend 20th-21st June.
Each competitor is allowed to bring to the scales each day one fish of the following species; Bass, Black Bream, Cod, Plaice and Pollack. The competition is based on the aggregate specimen percentage of the five fish caught and not the total weight.
Three boats took to the water with over 20 competitors taking part over the two day event. At the end of the first day Nick Young, fishing on Amaretto IV, had a healthy lead having caught a 3lb Bass, a 4 lb Cod and a 9lb Pollack. Other notable catches caught on the first day were Mike Roger’s 4.5lb Bass and Charlie Kapur’s 6lb Cod.
Day two brought good catches for Charlie Kapur (2lb Plaice) and Tony Myatt (7lb Pollack.) Unfortunately Nick Young did not add to his score which gave opportunity for the other anglers to catch up. No Bream were caught and much of the second day was spent targeting Plaice as most of the boats had taken advantage of the better weather by going further out to sea on the previous day.
The winner of the best fish awards (£60 each) were as follows: Mike Rogers – Best Bass of 4.5lb, Steve Sweet – Best Cod of 10.9lbs, Charlie Kapur – Best Plaice of 2.1lbs, Nick Young – Best Pollack of 9.6lbs.
The winners of the aggregate specimen competition were as follows:
First Prize £150 – Steve Sweet with 115.73%
Second Prize £100 – Nick Young with 115.47%
Third Prize £50 – Charlie Kapur with 98.22%
Nick Young also won a day charter boat fishing with Lyme Bay Charters
Mike Rogers won a day charter boat fishing with Amaretto Sport Fishing.
