Eighteen members took to the water on Sunday, in three charter boats, in the latest round of this year’s boat competition which was for “Best Pair of Plaice”.
Just under a hundred Plaice were caught along with ten Dabs, the majority being returned to the water unscathed. Fourteen people therefore brought a pair of Plaice to the scales.
The winner was Paul George, fishing on Pegasus, with a combined weight of 1,595 gms. Second was Roy Shipway, fishing on Alice Rose, with a combined weight of 1,580 gms. Third was Darren Herbert, also on Alice Rose, with a combined weight of 1,470 gms.
Tony Bessford caught a season’s best Dab of 290 gms.
As far as the league tables are concerned Roy Shipway increased his lead to 14 points with his second place in this match. Six points behind on 8 points we have Brian Moss and Lewis Hodder. In third place Darren Herbert has 7 points.
For the “Number of Species” caught table, Roy Shipway is in the lead with 10 species, Brian Moss has 9 species in second place and third is Lewis Hodder with 8 species .
With Tony Bessford’s Dab being caught on Lewis Hodder’s boat, Alice Rose, this gave further points in the “Skipper’s Shield” for Lewis. He now has 700% points from twelve species – a substantial lead over Phil Hodder who is in second place on 168% points.
The next boat match is for “Number of Species” and is on Sunday 14th June
