On Sunday 3rd April, Boats Alice Rose and Pegasus took to the sea in round 3 of the LRSAC Boat League. Conditions were fishable but the sea state was choppy with bitter winds.
Drifting the Tennants was the favoured area in the morning and Alice Rose brought in some reasonable Pollack. The afternoon was spent anchoring up on different marks in the hope of getting Rays, Bull Huss and Smooth Hounds.
Pollack, Pouting, Dogfish, Whiting, Smooth Hound, Cuckoo Wrasse, Thornback Ray, Bull Huss, Poor Cod were caught. There was even time for a Conger and undersized Ling to be caught. As usual there were tales of various fish being “lost” but all twelve anglers that fished the competition got at least two points for catching one qualifying fish.
The winner was Darren Herbert with a Pollack of 3,124gms (6lbs 14ozs). In second place was the taciturn Roy Shipway with a Pollack of 2,870gms (6lbs 5ozs). Third was Colin Thomas with a Smooth Hound 2,810gms (calculated weight)(6lbs 3ozs)
The next boat match is on Sunday 24th April – Best Pair of Plaice.
