On Sunday 2nd July the latest round of the boat league took place with only eight anglers on one boat (Pegasus – skipper Lewis Hodder). This was a species competition with points being awarded to different species of fish caught (Mackerel, Dogfish, Pouting getting one point – Ballan & Cuckoo Wrasse, Plaice, Pollack getting two points – Congers Gurnards, Rays etc getting 3 points)
Conditions were very good and an early inshore mark gave up Ballan Wrasse and Corkwing Wrasse. We then moved on to a plaice mark which gave up a few more plaice before moving further out on to bream and gurnard and ray marks (sadly none caught here apart for lots of dogfish!). We finished up drifting the West Tennants for Cuckoo Wrasse , Pouting and Pollack.
Ten species of fish were caught including Conger, Dogfish, Red Gurnard, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollack, Pouting, Ballan Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse and Corkwing Wrasse.
First was Darren Herbert (who caught a third Cuckoo Wrasse on the last two minutes of fishing to move him into the winners spot), Second was Roy Shipway and Third Mike Hansell.
The next match is on Sunday 6th August 09.00 to 17.00 and is for Heaviest Tope
